Switching Email Hosts: Linking your AOL address to Gmail

To do this, you’ll need to link your account to Gmail. After you link your account, you’ll see all your messages in your Gmail inbox.

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. In the top right, click Settings.
  3. Click the Accounts and Import tab.
  4. In the “Check mail from other accounts” section, click Add a mail account.
  5. Type the email address you want to link, then click Next.
  6. Select Link account with Gmail (Gmailify), then click Next.
  7. Follow the steps on the screen, then click Next or Sign in.

Import Emails from your other account (POP3)

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. In the top right, click Settings.
  3. Click the Accounts and Import tab.
  4. In the “Check mail from other accounts” section, click Add a mail account.
  5. Type the email address you want to link, then click Next.
  6. Select the second option and select Next.
  7. Fill out the details and click Add Account.
  8. Select Yes and click Next.
  9. Select the name you want to appear on your emails and select Next.
  10. Configure your SMTP settings.
  11. You’ll be asked to verify this email address.
  12. Log into your email account and click the URL as seen here. If you cannot click on the link, use the code and enter it on the screen in the previous step.
  13. Click confirm.
  14. Gmail will present you with a success message.

Manually Fetching your emails

Gmail will automatically do this for you. However, if you want to manually do it, they provide that option. There is also an option to check the history of when Gmail has fetched your emails from AOL.

Getting Gmail to download all emails from your email account.

We have been testing out a way to get all of your past emails and we found that Gmail will not import your folders. However, we found that if you move the emails out of your folders into your Inbox, it will prompt Gmail to transfer the emails over to your existing Gmail account.
