SaneBox Works Best with Modern Email Protocols: IMAP Preferred
SaneBox relies on modern email protocols like IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) to function effectively. These protocols allow SaneBox to interact with your emails directly on the server, ensuring a consistent experience across all your devices.
Why POP3 is Outdated:
SaneBox does not work well with POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3). POP3 simply downloads your emails to your device and doesn’t maintain a connection with the server.
This means:
- No SaneBox Folders: Since SaneBox folders reside on the server, you won’t see them using POP3.
- Inconsistent Experience: Emails might appear differently on various devices due to POP3’s limited functionality.
The Benefits of IMAP:
- Seamless Syncing: Access and manage your emails across all devices (phone, laptop, etc.). Changes made on one device reflect instantly on others.
- SaneBox Functionality: Allows SaneBox to organize and manage your emails on the server, enabling features like Sane folders.
Most Email Providers Support IMAP:
The vast majority of email providers offer IMAP access. It’s the preferred protocol for modern email usage.
Troubleshooting Tips:
- Check Your Email Client Settings: Ensure your email client is set to use IMAP for your email account.
- Rare Exceptions: A few providers may require additional configurations like OWA/WebDav or ActiveSync. SaneBox generally works with these as well.
- GoDaddy Customers: IMAP might be a separate service. Verify you’re subscribed to their IMAP offering.
- Need Help Converting to IMAP? Contact SaneBox support with your email client name and version for assistance.
