Understanding Spam Filters
Most email services require you to actively mark emails as spam using their built-in tools. Simply moving emails to or from spam folders doesn’t usually train the filter.
Gmail and G Suite
Report Spam Button: Use the “Report Spam” button in the Gmail web interface or app. This effectively teaches Gmail that an email is spam.
Other Email Providers
- Check for Tools: Visit your email provider’s webmail interface and look for a “Report Spam” or similar button.
- Mark Manually: If no specific button exists, manually mark emails as spam within your spam folder.
- Note: While marking spam can help, it might not be foolproof. Some spam filters rely on complex algorithms that aren’t always influenced by manual actions.
Stay Proactive:
- Regularly check your spam folder and mark emails as spam or not spam as needed.
- Consider using additional spam filtering tools or services for enhanced protection.
- Be cautious of clicking links or opening attachments in suspicious emails.
